It is said that the hardest thing to do in this world is to live in it. But I’ve never claimed to be a strong person.

Who we think we are and who we actually are isn’t always easy to know, especially if you’re not ready for the rude awakening the truth might bring.

At twenty-one it’s time for me to weather the typhoon I unknowingly created three years ago.

Just Stay is the second book in the Metamorphosis duet, and the characters will get their happy ending. Please note due to explicit content and strong language, it’s recommended for readers ages 18+ only.

This is a MF emotionally dark contemporary romance, that contains subjects such as: alcohol and drug abuse, suicide attempt, mental health issues. If you find dark subjects triggering, maybe this isn’t the read for you.

Pen is back. Book 2 in The Metamorphosis Duet starts off where book 1 ended.
Pen is dealing with her harsh words and actions that sent the one and only person who has loved her through everything away from her and from her life altogether. Can you really blame him. She has lost herself. He has redefined himself into something dark and hurtful.

Just Leave gutted me. This book will break your heart just in a different way. It will make you question your feelings for a few characters. It will make you want to hug and slap them, but through it all... you'll fall more in love with each and ever person you encounter in this book/duet.

Such a real and gritty story. It is dark in parts, it is so emotional. It's also filled with passion, hope and redemption. Fantastic first duet... Can't wait to see what else this author has in store to decimate her readers heart! I will always be there for it.

There is SO much I could say about this duet, but you just need to read it. Don't read reviews. Go in with an open mind and heart. May want to keep those tissue handy. This duet just might cause your emotions to leak!

Review - 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

I'm not crying... I promise... OK, I'm lying 🥺🥺🥺 the question is, are they happy tears or sad tears? 🤐

"You were the worst and most beautiful mistake I ever made."

This book is set 3 years since the first book, Just Leave. The character development from the start of book one, to the end of just stay is incredible 🥺🥺 as expected, there is more heartbreak and angst throughout. I genuinely had to brace myself mentally for this book after the effect Just Leave had on me. I thought it was gut wrenchingly epic. This book did not disappoint, the big difference being we get to see Pen pick herself up from rock bottom. Not relying on anyone, not lashing out and hurting everyone around her, but the brutally raw truth of how someone goes from their lowest point in life, how they overcome such heart crushing events. Its not all pretty butterflies and pretty words. Its the hard truth, I found it inspiring. It almost felt "real life" in the sense that it wasn't sugar coated and it could be how someone in reality would find the their way to recovery. The author didn't sweep over the hardships, its brutally honest. Pens progress throughout is amazing and I couldn't have felt prouder of her..

"Don't ever forget how strong you are, penny. You're a fighter, a fucking warrior. Sometimes the hardest thing to do in this world is to live, and im selfish enough to want you to do that for me."

I don't even know where to start with Eric, he is one in a million. My heart hurt for him so bloody much, I was diving into this book dreading the outcome for him from the ending of the last book. I should never have doubted him 🖤 he doesn't have it easy in this book either but he is still that same sweet caring guy who will always be there for Pen, regardless. What is it they say?? 😉 "I love you, forever and a day" 🦋🖤🥺

I loved all of the side characters after finishing Just Leave and even more so after finishing Just Stay. They warm my heart, everyone deserves a group of friends like them 🥰 Rina is my hero 💖

I recommend this duet to everyone. BUT there are BIG trigger warnings. PLEASE make sure its ok for you, its DARKKK.

Love. Love. Loved it 🦋🖤

Oh boy do these two have a lot to work through. We pick back up three years after the end of book one. Life has not been kind to Pen in the lightest. She has spiraled all the way to rock bottom. The band has a concert in Philly that she plans to attend before going through with a horrible decision she made. The plan was to sneak in so they don't know she is there but they have other ideas giving her the five start treatment whether she wants it or not. The reunion with Eric goes horribly but seeing the others helps a little bit. Then she sneaks out to her parents grave for their death anniversary as well as to go through with her secret plan. This leads to all sorts of chaos as she is found later. This story becomes one of survival and rehabilitation. Just when it looks like her and Eric might be able to work things out another twist is thrown into the story. Makes for a very dark emotional read that will take you along for ride hoping she pulls through it in the end. An enjoyable read regardless. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

Wow this book was so much better than I could have ever anticipated. This type of genre usually isn't my cup of tea but I can honestly say I loved EVERY. SINGLE. WORD! The characters growth and development, the story, the twists and turns, and above all the emotions the author makes you feel made it world-class! I wish that I could give this book more than a 5 star rating because it was just that good!

Pen's story continues but now time has passed. Three years to be exact and Unknown Elation has successfully achieved their dream and are the most famous band in the world. It was so lovely to see the group in the future and see that nothing much had changed with them. Despite all the fame and fortune they were still the same people underneath and behind the cameras.

However, Pen's life takes an even more drastic turn into darkness as she continues to spiral. Haunted by the words she said to Eric that she can't take back and the crushing loss she suffered at the end of the last book Penny is in the darkest place anyone can be in. Rina, Matt, Jensen, Dave and Eric all try to help but wanting to protect them she doesn't accept their help which only makes things worse.

How do you accept help from people who you have hurt beyond what you would class as acceptable? When all you can see are the mistakes you made, and the guilt overwhelms you. Shown throughout, it takes an inner strength and courage to admit your mistakes, to accept your weaknesses and expose yourself as vulnerable even to friends you've known your entire life. Reading this truly opens your eyes to how difficult it can be to do this and not only ask for but accept help especially from those you love.

Just Stay highlights the importance of having strong friendships and how no matter what you do, the good ones will always remain by your side when you need them most! They know and see the real you even when all you can see is someone unworthy of their friendship. Unable to let go, Pen has stalked Eric for the past three years and his own downward spiral only further increases the guilt and shame she feels. Pen descends into darkness truly believing there is no way out, no way to escape the self-loathing she feels and turns to drink and drugs to numb the agony she tries to battle everyday on her own.

Ren makes a brave and innovative choice to tackle mental health issues that people face and how difficult it can be for people. I have never read anything like this before and it shines a light on how truly fragile everyones mental health can be. It also addresses issues that people face today as more young people find themselves incapable of not looking at their phones. And the damage it can do along with the challenges of being famous and all the unfair trials they must go through and accept because of their career choice.

Ren has finished this emotionally dark and challenging duet to utter perfection. I was emotionally shredded once again. The depth of Rens writing made it easy to relate to the issues of depression, addiction and suicide addressed in this book.

Pen, oh my dear broken, emotionally inpet Pen. She has struggled so much over the last 3 years, become isolated, detached and on the cusp of giving up. As it so often happens with depression you become blinkered to the world around you, you misinterpret every interaction with people, your mind twists and warps it so much that you can't connect with those you once loved and relied on. That is exactly where we find Pen at the precipice, one action can change it all.

This moment is her butterfly affect. One night can change it all, and in this case it does. Pen's actions break the cycles of self destruction, self loathing, hatred and despair. They force abrupt change on her and the opportunity to right the wrongs of the past, present and to pay back for all the hurt. Pen learns so much about herself, how selfish, blinkered, broken and easily manipulated she was. This time of deep introspection and understanding allows Pen to begin to atone for her past actions and gives her the strength to reach out for forgiveness and to build a future.

Pen's journey crushed my heart, it pulled me in and lit a fire and gave me hope. I can relate to Pen in so many ways, I can see so many parallels to myself and I wish I'd have learned as quickly as she did but that's something I still battle battle this day.

Eric is not the boy he was when he left Pens' house 3 years ago, he is a man, a rock god with millions of adoring fans. However he is more broken and depressed than anyone even realises, he has lost his spark, his soul is shattered, he plays a part but is nothing more than a shell of who he once was. One night, a reunion of the most painful kind, brings about his resurrection. His journey is filled with pain, he is utterly misunderstood by those who mean the most to him. One moment in time can change all that, that is his butterfly affect.

The pain, heartache, depression and turmoil experienced by Pen and Eric is is nothing short of spell binding. This duet will hurt but it will also heal, just make sure you have tissues.

This book picks up 3 years after the last one so the characters are all around the age of 21. At this point Unknown Elation has become a huge success and have been touring all over the world.

Our FMC Pen, has been on a downward spiral ever since her parents died. She’s turned to drugs, alcohol and promiscuity to dull her pain. She is completely distraught over how she treated Eric the night she found out both of her parents were dead.

Eric has turned into an entirely different person, or so it would seem. He’s living up to the stereotypical bad boy rockstar persona. He’s been seen partying with many different women and getting into trouble with the law.

Everything starts to change once Pen hits absolute rock bottom and tries to take her own life. Once again, Eric has come to the rescue and Pen starts to finally realize how much he has done for her. Not only has Eric basically taken care of her their whole lives, the rest of her friends have too. She has taken them for granted for so many years. She wants to start to stand on her own two feet and not lash out whenever something doesn’t go her way.

The group goes through some ups and downs before they’re all able to finally get their happily ever after. Honestly, her friends are frickin’ saints and deserve serious praise for what they put up with.

I gave this book a 4/5 because the FMC drove me crazy. She has lived in her own bubble for so long it’s ridiculous. She’s 21 and doesn’t even know how much money is in her bank account🙄. I understand her naivety is on purpose for the storyline but it made it hard for me to relate and therefore harder to really get into the book. All the other aspects of the book were great. Just a warning you may want to slap some sense into Pen🤣.

Beautiful and emotional conclusion!

“Every single thing you do matters. You have been created as one of a kind.”

DAMN! This story had me all tied up in emotional knots. As I am thrust back into Penelope’s story, I can’t help but be gutted by all her heartache and pain. There is just so much going on with her that she kept me in utter tears throughout. This is one hell of a story about forgiveness, self love, and the love of your friends and family. The journey is hard but the light at the end is so worth it!

Since we left Penelope, she has succumbed to her demons and has completely lost herself along the way. The one person she could count on wants nothing to do with her and has left her with harsh truths.

"You were the worst and most beautiful mistake I ever made."

The emotions written on every page of this story are raw, gritty and intense. They will gut you, break your heart and leave gasping for breath. But all is not hopeless because this story is about redemption, hope and love. Penelope needs to pick herself up off the floor and forgive the one person who can make things right – herself. Then accept the help from others that she so desperately needs. This is her moment – this is her butterfly affect.

Brilliantly written story that had me gripping my kindle tightly, laughing and crying, and hoping that these phenomenal characters got their happy endings. My heart was broken after the ending of book one, but book two has filled me with so much love.

I absolutely loved this beautiful duet and I can't wait to see what this amazing author comes up with next. Highly recommend.

This book completely surprised me. I think I spent a majority of the first half of the book on the verge of tears and I don’t know the last time a book has done that to me. Just wow.

The heartbreak, the struggles, the emotions… I don’t think I can fully describe the journey you will go through while reading this book. I was so invested in the characters and what was happening. I guessed what might be happening in the beginning of the book but as things started to unfold I thought my suspicions wouldn’t come to pass. The author gave you a bit of a security blanket and then ripped it away. However, in order to complete the journey you have to go through the struggles first, which definitely happened.

While I know the ending of the book said it will be happily ever after, I was worried that something would happen and ruin it. The ending was cute, of course. But I really do think the highlight of this book was all of the emotions and struggles the author was able to convey through her writing.

I think this was a very well written duet. I like that each book was a separate time and journey for the characters and that they fit together perfectly. The author was able to effectively write the two different phases and convey the emotions and turmoil’s that the characters had to go through before they got their happily ever after. I feel like I have a bit of an emotional hangover after reading this book even though it did end on a happier note. For those to you about to start this duet, maybe be prepared with some tissues just in case.

Here come the tears.
Book one almost killed me , it ripped my heart out and I fully expect this to do the same lol.

I have been so immersed in this duet series that I don’t know how I’ll cope not knowing what happens after book two. It was such a sweet and fantastic ending to what started as a tragic series.

I love the butterfly effect quote at the start of this book.
At the end of book one I actually hated the way penny treated everyone but reading book two made me realise she was just hurting and through book two as time passed the hurt just kept building and I felt so sorry for her.
After reading book one I wasn’t such which direction book two would go and I was really surprised at everything that happened, because book two starts 3 years after the cliffhanger ending of book one.

The author certainly had me fooled at the start because I genuinely thought that Eric hated Penny, well how wrong was I haha.

The necklace and the boots (I’m just so jealous lol) 🦋
I don’t know if there enough words to explain just how much I enjoyed this book.
I’m so glad that Penny and Eric got everything they wanted . In fact everyone got to be happy.
I enjoyed the new and old characters in this story.

This author certainly knows how to make you cry, whether it’s happy or sad you will definitely need those tissues at the ready.
Once again such fantastic writing from the author. I truly can’t wait to read more books by Ren Blakely.

What do you do with your life when your life is a series of mistakes where you’ve pushed away all of the most important people in your life ? How do you move past that ?

For Pen, it means she doesn’t. Everything reminds her of every mistake: the media, her best friends’ songs, and her own reflection.

Her life is surrounded by darkness, and she can’t accept help. She turns to drugs and alcohol to mute the voices of self loathing.

And then…one huge event makes her have to face herself and the selfishness.

Pen and Eric’s story is a journey, and it’s one that I jumped into with both feet. Life is messy, so is love, and the people in your life should catch you when you fall and you don’t remember which way is up.

If you cried at the end of Just Leave, so did I. Please read the first book because this is a duet. This duet will make you feel, cry , and yell. Like life, that’s the process of their story. It’s why we pick up books to start with, and this love story is epic.

Trigger warning: MF emotionally dark contemporary romance, that contains subjects such as: alcohol and drug abuse, suicide attempt, mental health issues.

If you’re good with all of that, you’ll love this.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Story

🦋Ren Blakely Penelope and Eric's story was everything to me. Pen's struggles with her mental health and her becoming self aware was such a metamorphosis. Penny had struggled so much in ways to capture what was going on with her that this turned into such a beautiful story.
🦋Eric's level of compassion and forgiveness is literally what selfless love should be. He understood that Pen's struggled were not easy. And that if he could make decisions that helped her even if he thought she didn't want him was amazing.
🦋Omg the letters 😭😭😭I bawled reading the letters to each other. Penny really had to wait and hit rock bottom to give Eric that letter. The emails were beautiful, but that letter was something transcendent. Seriously the story from Just Leave through Just Stay was utterly beautiful and captivating.
🦋I can't wait to read Ren Blakely's next book. This story as a whole is one of my top reads of the year and one I'll go back to in those times I need to revisit Pen.

To say I've been dying to get my hands on this book after reading the first was an understatement. I was so angry and pen for what she did to Eric and my heart was breaking for him.
This book kicks off 3 years after just leave and pen has had it so bad, she has turned to drink and drugs to get through her life, she keeps seeing Eric in the papers doing stupid stuff all the time but what she dosnt realise is he has been doing it to keep the media off her, on the day of the anniversary of her parents death unknown elation are back in pens home town where she goes to meet them, she sees all of her friend but decides enough is enough and trys to do something silly. She ends up in rehab where she is adamant to change her life around and with the help of Eric and her friends she does just that! I love the fact that this book introduced 2 more people and I loved Eli and Isabel. Pen and Eric went through so much together and came out fighting and stronger than ever, this is the best ending I could have wished for. It had me emotional, crying mad and frustrated and I loved every minute of it. A truly fantastic duet and I can not wait to read more of rens books in the future

At the end of book one, Pen made a huge decision while in a grief stricken state. Now, three years later, she is truly hitting rock bottom. Can Pen’s group of unyielding childhood friends help her find her way back to herself before it’s too late?

This is book two of the Metamorphosis Duet, and I am in true awe at this amazing story. I honestly wish I could give it more that five stars, it really does deserve it!

All of the characters, including the ones new to book two, are incredible. The character development is fantastic. The story is super emotional, and pulls at every single one of your heart strings. I loved that the storyline deals with mental health issues and treatment, and in such an inspiring way. I loved seeing Pen’s emotional, personal, and relationship struggles, growth and development. I also enjoyed seeing the other characters growth as well. But most of all, I loved that they all get their HEA!

This is the second part of the duet and if you loved the first part, this book is a must as it only gets better. After that utterly gut wrenching ending in the first book this book moves three years on and omg the feels in this book. I remember nagging Ren for just the blurb of this book, then when the book came it was just wow. Penny’s life has become this place of darkness with drugs and alcohol to dull the pain and nightmares. Her friends in the band Unknown Elation including Eric who she pushed away have made it big and the media has discovered she is the butterfly girl and hound her relentlessly. This book you definitely need to check those trigger warnings. This book shows just how messed up life can be and a real view just how depression can really effect a person. I really can’t wait to read more books by Ren Blakely. ❤️🖤

The second book to this duet and if your looking for an emotional read that is full of emotions grab this one. After the ending of book one we knew that Eric and Pens story wasn’t quite over. The traumatic ending with all of the feelings they had, it was never going to be a simple journey. This book takes you to three years later and everything is different. Although the band are still together and are dominating the music world Pens life isn’t quite so smooth sailing. Eric doesn’t seem to have his life together but things aren’t always what they seem. Penelope’s story is tragic, but to find her way to be the woman that she can be it takes so much. Her journey is more of a rollercoaster but this book does give you a happily ever after. Eventually. Rockstar romance with some possible triggers. This is a little dark but so worth the read.

Pen is back and ready to face the past before moving on, even if the past isn’t ready to let go of her. This had a lot of positives for me. All our main characters have grown up and life has moved forward and times have changed. Seeing where they are now was like revisiting friends again. In an effort to keep things spoiler free, a lot happens in this book, and much of it is trial by fire. Pen does show growth, and it happens in fits and starts, which seems true to life and the character that she is. That said, I still found myself frustrated by her helplessness at times. I found with this one it was possible to both appreciate the person and be annoyed by her. I think we all have that friend. Lol.

I knew going into this second book in the duet that the story was going to be far more emotional than the last, with the end of book one with Pen & Eric. There were so many situations and issues in the beginning it was hard not to feel pulled in two different directions, Pen and Eric’s. My heart ached for the broken encounters they endured and the lack of forgiveness to themselves and each other. So much angst & tension in this drama filled world. You don’t want to put the book down because something new or unexpected happens around every turn. This world and these characters are so amazing, oh and those new side characters too!! They sure do endure so much that is meant to destroy them. Be prepared with tissues and comfortable spot to lose track of time, you’re in for a treat.

After reaching the end of Just Leave I was curious about this next installment! I picked this one up and got into this world once again. This second installment pulled me in. I enjoyed it!

Pen's journey continues! I wasn't sure what all was going to happen this time around with these characters and that got me into it even more! Once again this story and it's characters had me feeling so many different things throughout.

With Just Stay, Ms.Blakely has created a good read that'll make you feel many things! I'm looking forward to more of her books!

Wow, what a book. The end of Just Leave left me wrecked, Just Stay did the same but in a totally different way. The character development from all the characters really showed in this book, especially in Pen and Eric. I loved how Ren showed how messy life can be and what ways can help someone overcome things. Pen has been through so much in the first book and it continued into this one. How is she meant to move forward when she’s pushed everyone she loves away from her? I don’t want to give any spoilers, so stop reading reviews about this book and just dive in. You won’t regret it🖤.

This book started with so much angst. It was heart breaking and devastating. The way the emotions were conveyed was so intense it literally had me in tears even though I'm not one to cry at books or movies. The grief and loss combined with the hints of suicide and the loss of friendship left me an emotional wreck. Ren Blakely doesn't only bring the characters world alive but inserts you so deeply into it that you feel like you are in there experiencing it. There are unexpected twists and turns and new friendships and trusts that all entwine together to make a moving story that leaves you feeling raw and affected and leaves you hanging on till the very end.

The rollercoaster of drama filled ups and downs continue as soon as you start this second part of this duet and leave you still desperately wanting to know what will happen with Pen and Eric!
After book one ended with these guys not on speaking terms you really didn't know would be next with these guys, and it did not disappoint with the twists and turns.
Nothing is easy for the whole gang of friends but at least this story leaves you with a happy heart!
Loved this whole group and would love a story for the other characters especially Matt and Dave!

This is the second book in the Metamorphosis duet and I so needed a happy ending! Fair warning, this book has some serious triggers and definitely qualifies as an emotionally dark contemporary romance. I was hooked in the first chapter and could not put the book down. I read the entire thing in one sitting. I was absolutely emotionally drained by the time I finished this book and I loved it! Definitely a must read!

OMG the duet was amazing. The ending was perfect. This book breaks you and then builds you back up right along the characters. Just Stay is the second book The Metamorphosis Duet and it is even more brutal than the previous one. The cliffhanger in Just Leave absolutely shattered my heart and I absolutely hated Penny in that moment but this book definitely made me change my mind about her. This book is dark, intense, absolutely gut wrenching and the perfect way to end the duet.

This is one emotional story involving how a young woman goes through life after a devastating loss.

Set three years after the first book, Pen is in a downward spiral. You name it - ie drugs, alcohol - she’s abusing it. She’ll need her Eric and her friends to get out of it.

This book made cry but I expected it. Pen and Eric have one bumpy ride together but I was glad I was along for the ride.

Emotional Journey of love

Loved this duet, the story of Pen and Eric is an epic best friends to lovers. The whole group of friends from age 7 and on is inspiring. Loyalty and friendship is reflected in the members of the band. My only regret is that the story ended. My hope is for this author to consider writing a reunion book to continue this wonderful group of friends!

Just Stay is the perfect conclusion to Eric and Pen’s tumultuous and gut-wrenching love story. This is such a well written story that deals with grief, depression, suffering and loss. Sometimes having a strong support system doesn’t matter as the darkness seeps in and pulls you under.
